Challenge:
The client’s mobile app was outdated, and it showed in how customers used it: navigation felt clunky, screens took too long to load, and the overall experience didn’t match the quality of the desktop storefront. The team wanted to offer a modern, intuitive interface that could keep up with growing mobile shopping demand, but rebuilding a production app used by an active customer base meant the new version had to be both a genuine improvement and a safe, low-risk transition.
Approach:
Scadea’s mobile team audited the existing app to identify the specific friction points driving customer complaints and abandoned sessions, from slow product search to a checkout flow that required too many taps. Rather than a ground-up rewrite from scratch, the team chose React Native so the new app could share logic across iOS and Android, cutting the effort needed to keep both platforms in sync going forward.
Solution:
The team rebuilt the app on React Native with a redesigned navigation structure, faster product search and filtering, and a streamlined checkout flow that reduced the number of steps between browsing and purchase. Scadea also implemented performance optimizations for image loading and screen transitions, since much of the original app’s sluggishness came from unoptimized media, and set up crash and performance monitoring so the team could catch issues quickly after launch.
Results:
The client now has a modern mobile app that gives customers a shopping experience on par with the desktop site, with a single React Native codebase that’s faster to update across both iOS and Android than maintaining two separate native apps. The app performs noticeably better, and the client’s team has the monitoring in place to keep it that way as they continue to add features.
